Applied Research Topic:
ATL08 analyses for bottom roughness and topography studies in Mexico, with application to numerical modelling of wind energy resources
Potential Applications:
Wind energy resource
Abstract:
Numerical modelling of wind energy resources depends on fundamental input data: the topography and the bottom roughness. However, due to the resolution of such models, it is necessary to simplify topography and the bottom roughness, which leads to significant uncertainties on the wind energy model predictions. The objective of this project is to analyse the effect of different topography and bottom roughness assumptions on the numerical simulation of wind velocity fields, and on the synoptic and statistical characteristics of those fields. This includes an analysis of the effects on typical renewable energy measures, such as the wind energy density and the annual energy production.
